The Spain-based “la Caixa” Foundation presents Symphony, a touring virtual reality project featuring Gustavo Dudamel and 101 musicians from 22 countries. The state-of-the-art immersive VR film experience is written and directed by Igor Cortadellas, and takes spectators on a musical journey by placing them inside of both the orchestra and the instruments themselves. Symphony will be free to experience, and will travel to hundreds of towns across Spain and Portugal in order to allow tens of thousands of people to have access to the power of symphonic music.
Symphony includes Gustavo and players from the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, together with 41 young people from across the globe (including numerous Dudamel Foundation Artists), performing works by Beethoven, Mahler and Bernstein, and a second film places viewers inside a luthier’s workshop, and from there brings them into the interior of the instruments themselves. Following its premiere in CosmoCaixa in Barcelona on September 15, 2020, Symphony will begin a ten-year tour.
