El Sistema is the largest social and musical organization in the world, founded in Venezuela 50 years ago by the maestro and economist José Antonio Abreu.
Its methodology, based on innovation and the collective practice of music, focuses on artistic excellence, while also implementing the best contemporary educational practices. It incorporates both instrumental techniques, as well as a deep understanding of musical interpretation and the appreciation of art.
El Sistema is in constant transformation socially, educationally and artistically. Its goal is to double its enrollment and expand its global network. Through its exchange platform, it connects with institutions from around the world to share knowledge and experiences that promote human development and cultural exchanges, such as the creation of a World System of Orchestras and Choirs.
In addition to transforming the lives of thousands of children and young people through music, El Sistema also sows the seeds of profound social change. Its style, marked by discipline, teamwork and excellence, forges in children and young people an intellectual and emotional character that accompanies them throughout their lives.
Each member of El Sistema, even if they do not continue in music, achieves a personal and professional evolution that will be significant in any field, thanks to the values instilled in them such as perseverance, respect and responsibility. Such values favor the construction of a dignified, successful, cultured Venezuela, which connects with a collective ideal of a nation.
Through a consolidated management of modern administrative practices, professional excellence and joint development, this organization promotes a model of quality and establishes itself as an example of integral human development, based on the culture of peace. For these reasons, during its five decades of existence, it has consolidated the support of strategic alliances that allow this movement to transcend borders and become a global reference.
El Sistema is and will always be a small country that reflects wonderful results, the product of the unification of the wills of all its parts, with the concurrence of great ideas carried out with excellence and quality as a goal, where evolution is the permanent initiative, based on the rescue of human sensitivity, so necessary today in Venezuela and in the world.
El Sistema will continue for many more years playing, singing, fighting and making music from Venezuela for the world.
Throughout the Anniversary year, we will be sharing archival videos of Gustavo leading El Sistema ensembles, Maestro Abreu's speeches, and more. View all El Sistema 50 videos below, or visit Gustavo's YouTube page for more!
