Celebrating the Berliner Philharmoniker 2016/17 Composer in Residence John Adams, Gustavo Dudamel joins the orchestra on a new recording of the composer's works: The John Adams Edition.
Gustavo leads the Berliner Philharmoniker in Adams's City Noir, which was premiered by Gustavo and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2009. He and John Adams have had a creative friendship since they met in Caracas in 2005. "To see the development of the genius of a composer," says Gustavo, "to be close to his mind and to his soul, that is unique. It's a privilege." Gustavo conducted the world premiere of Adams's The Gospel According to the Other Mary with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2012, and Adams serves as the LA Phil's Creative Chair.
The collection also spotlights performances by Leila Josefowicz, Simon Rattle, Alan Gilbert, Kirill Petrenko, and more, capturing live concerts from the 2016/17 season. Listeners can discover new recordings of Harmonielehre, Scheherazade.2, The Gospel According to the Other Mary, Short Ride in a Fast Machine, and The Wound-Dresser.
This special edition CD/Blu-ray set includes a comprehensive booklet and documentary film about John Adams's time in Berlin and highlights artwork by artist Wolfgang Tillmans.
