Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a celebration of the music of Schumann this spring.
Gustavo conducts all four of Schumann's symphonies alongside his piano and cello concertos, and wraps the 2017/18 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall with a special, video-enhanced production of the oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri.
The festival opens with performances of Schumann's Piano Concerto, spotlighting pianist Mitsuko Uchida, plus Symphony No. 1, "Spring" on May 17 & 18 and Symphony No. 2 on May 19 & 20.
Gustavo and the LA Phil are joined onstage by Argentine cellist Sol Gabetta for Schumann's Cello Concerto from May 24 to 27. Performances on May 24 & 25 also feature the Third Symphony, "Rhenish" and concerts on May 26 & 27 highlight the Fourth Symphony.
From June 1 to 3, director Peter Sellars joins with video artist Refik Anadol for a production of Schumann's oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri. Gustavo conducts the LA Phil with featured soloists Lucy Crowe (peri), Joshua Stewart (narrator), Ying Fang (young maiden), Benjamin Bliss (young man), Tamara Mumford (angel), and Davóne Tines (old man).
