LA Phil & Gustavo Dudamel Present 2016/17 Season at Walt Disney Concert Hall
Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and President and CEO Deborah Borda today announced the 2016/17 season of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Highlights of the LA Phil's 98th season include the complete Schubert Symphonies juxtaposed with the orchestral songs of Mahler; a Bartók cycle with pianist Yuja Wang; the LA premiere of Creative Chair John Adams's Absolute Jest; a West Coast tour with Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA); and the opportunity to hear spiritual choral works from three eras: Adams's El Niño, Haydn's The Creation, and Handel's Messiah.
“My LA Phil family and I celebrate the beauty and power of music every time we have the privilege of stepping onto the stage of Walt Disney Concert Hall or go out into the community,” says Gustavo Dudamel. “This season, there is so much to share that we cannot wait to get started. The rich season from Schubert to Shankar gives our orchestra and our audiences a wonderful and expansive spectrum of great and diverse music played with brilliant artists. My personal passion for Schubert and Mahler, along with saluting our friend John Adams, playing Bartók with Yuja Wang and premiering so many new works is just the beginning of our 2016/17 odyssey. We hope you will come on this journey with us.”
