LA Phil: 2017 Hollywood Bowl season
As a part of their summer season, Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic return to the Hollywood Bowl for performances throughout July and August.
This July, Gustavo leads the LA Phil in seven performances of ballet, jazz, classical, and more. On July 11, they present “Stars of Ballet” alongside dancers Misty Copeland, Marcello Gomes, Sergei Polunin, and Natalia Osipova. July 13 and 18 see Gustavo and the LA Phil perform Beethoven’s Ninth, joined by soprano Amanda Majeski, mezzo-soprano J'Nai Bridges, tenor Issachah Savage, and bass Ryan Speedo Green.
The legendary Tony Bennett comes to the Hollywood Bowl for two evenings with Gustavo and the LA Phil on July 14 and 15. July 20 sees the orchestra perform selections by Wagner. On July 23, Gustavo conducts the LA Phil in Sondheim on Sondheim alongside special guests Lewis Cleale, Carmen Cusack, Claybourne Elder, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ruthie Ann Miles, Matthew Morrison, Solea Pfeiffer, Vanessa Williams, and the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA).
Following performances in Colombia, Gustavo returns to conduct the LA Phil in August. Their August 22 concert of Holst’s The Planets also includes a world premiere of the Bjarnason Violin Concerto with guest soloist Pekka Kuusisto.
On August 24, Gustavo and the LA Phil present John Adams’s Harmonium and Mozart's Requiem, joined by soprano Miah Persson, mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn, tenor David Portillo, bass John Relyea, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
