This spring Gustavo Dudamel presides over his first major festival with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Americas and Americans. Running from April 6 to May 14, the festival spotlights works by North and South American composers and explores the cultural experiences shared across the hemisphere. Dudamel will lead the orchestra in a program of works by Chávez, Lieberson, and Bernstein on April 22 and 23. The week of April 29 finds Gustavo and the LA Phil a unique interdisciplinary collaboration with filmmaker Alberto Arvelo, in which Antonio Estévez’s atmospheric, folk-inspired Cantata Criolla will be designed and staged by the renowned director using film, costumes, and innovative theatrical techniques.
